Social Networks?
I just joined up with facebook or the other one whose name fails me ... and it sent other people emails inviting them to be my friends ... which I didn't realize it was going to do. If you are on that list then sorry ... I didn't mean to spam you.
I keep getting linked in invites and yet I've never found anything useful in linked in and I've never invited anyone else. I only accept invites because it seems rude not to. I would delete my linked in account if it weren't for this nagging doubt that I might offend someone.
I am not impressed with people who have lots of links on linkedin ... in fact, I consider them to be "easy" - in the old fashioned sense of the word. Is that wrong?
I looked briefly at twitter ... and didn't get it. I have 2 small children. I don't need more chatter in my life. I need less.
Help me, please: Am I missing out on something really important due to my ignorance? Am I just too old (38, to be precise)?
I know I invited you to link up on LinkedIn, but nonetheless I have my doubts too. However, at work we've actually tried using LinkedIn as a recruitment tool. Not sure if we actually got any decent candidates that way though...

LinkedIn is what you make of it. I have found it is a good way to make new business contacts.
A lot better than making cold calls.

I too have not found a good use of Linked In yet. I'm wondering if anyone has references to sites or blogs that discuss best practices around using this service.

I have built up a LinkedIn network, partially to reconnect with old collegues and partially to build up a network down the road if/when I'm looking for a new job. Beyond that it hasn't been much use. I could see it being used for recruitment purposes though.
I agree on those with high numbers of connections in LinkedIn. Two guys we've hired in the past 2 years have a high number of connections. They both recently 'connected' with a guy we fired 3 years ago because of performance problems (namely the lack thereof).
