For this week only The Times is giving away a free audiobook of Master and Commander from Audible.co.uk worth £9.79. Go get it while it’s free. [I suspect it might only work in the UK]. Next week there are other books.
I changed jobs about six months ago which meant that I had to drive to work for the first time in years. Most days I listen to audiobooks that I’ve purchased from Audible.com (the US site). I usually listen to business books and I often find that they’re easier to listen to than to read.
I’m a little nervous about listening to Master and Commander because although it has a great reputation as a novel and I loved the novel, the few times I tried to read it in book form I literally fell asleep. Luckily I was in my bed at the time. I’m hoping the audio version doesn’t have the same effect.
BTW: I was kinda torn about posting this because I’m pissed off with Audible.co.uk. I’ve used their US service for over a year now, but recently they moved me to their UK site. I wouldn’t mind that except the UK prices are more expensive than the US prices. For instance Seth Godin’s All Marketers are Liars sells for £19.95, which is the equivalent of $US34.96, at audible.co.uk but it sells for only £19.95 at audible.com.
